How to Add the Feedburner Email Subscription box to Your Blog
Adding a feedburner subscription box to your blog is not really a difficult task, but I have been seeing lots of newbie bloggers asking this question on various blogging groups which I am a member.
I will try as much as possible to simplify the process of adding the feedburner email subscription box, so that it will be easy for everyone (especially newbies) to understand it. To achieve this, I will be breaking the Process into four (4) Steps.
Step 1- How to add feedburner email subscription box to your blog
The first and foremost thing to do is to create a Google account, if you don’t have one already; you can get a Google account at www.gmail.com . After creating your Google account, the next thing to do is to go www.feedburner.com or www.feedburner.google.com .
On that web page, you should see a simple sign in/login in form where you will put your email and password to get access to the feedburner service. Enter your details in the space provided and click the sign in button.
Step 2 – How to add feedburner email subscription box to your blog
After clicking the sign in button, the next page that comes up will show that you are now logged in to feedburner and on that page you will find a box with the title “Burn a Feed Right Now, type your blog or feed address here”.
In the box provided, input your blog feed URL or your blog URL and click the next button. (If you are on self-hosted WordPress, your feed URL/address should be yourdomain.com/feed/ ).
The next page that comes up should have fetched your blog title and your feed address.
(Note: the feed title and address can be edited if you are not satisfied with the default settings), when you are satisfied with settings in that page, click the next button.
After clicking the next button, you should get a congratulatory message stating that your feed is now live.
Just below that page, you will find the “next button” and “Skip directly to feed management” link. Click the “Skip directly to feed management” link. (Don’t click next).
Step 3 – How to add feedburner email subscription box to your blog
If you clicked the “Skip directly to feed management” link, you should arrive at your newly created feed dashboard. At the top of the dashboard page, you will find various links there.
The link we need should is the “Publicize” link.
After clicking the “publicize” link, you will be presented with various options at the left sidebar of the page, but the one we are interested in is the “Email subscription” option.
Click on this link option, and this should take you to a page where you will be requested to activate this service, click the “Activate” button on that page.
Step 4 – How to add feedburner email subscription box to your blog
After clicking the “Activate” link, you will be taken to the subscription management page; this is the place where you get your subscription code.
On that page, right under the language selection option, you will see a box with the code you are to copy and paste on your blog.
Copy this code and login in to your blog dashboard, then navigate to Appearance >> widgets>> and drag a text box widget to your blog sidebar, paste the earlier copied code in it, name it whatever you want and click the save link.
Now go to your blog homepage, you should now have the feedburner email subscription box in your blog sidebar. If you are on blogger.com, the same procedure holds for you, but you have to go to layout option and select the text/html option for your blog sidebar and paste the copied code there.
